INDIA: A GLOBAL HUB FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

India has an exceptional opportunity to become the Research and Development (R&D) Hub for the world. With a few more reforms, India is tantalizingly close to becoming that place of excellence in research. Once India reaches the threshold, then the opportunities will cascade through the entire economy and society bringing new levels of productivity and prosperity.

Joe Biden and India

In President-elect Joe Biden, India will have a thoughtful American President. An American President who will conduct foreign policy with care, dignity and vision. The American policy will be process-driven and evidence-based.

President-elect Joe Biden, more than any recent President including Barack Obama, has great regard for careful and methodical processes. After all, Joe Biden was a US Senator for over 35 years.

That’s good news for India. It is always better when policies are based on analytical grounding, rather than personal chemistry or whims or fancies.

Covid 19 Forecasting Models

There are many epidemiological, econometric and statistical models that have been designed and developed to forecast the diffusion trajectory of Covid 19, and to forecast the mortality and resource utilization.

We have developed a very parsimonious and elegant model to forecast the mortality. This is an application of The Bass Model. We show that the Bass Model does as well as the other extant and sophisticated models.

On Race Relations in America

I have been associated with many Universities globally. And that has been a wonderful privilege, and an opportunity to serve, learn and teach. Thank you all.

As we all know, America is now in the midst of intense action, conversation and reflection about race relations.

Here is how American University Presidents reflect.

TECHNOLOGY MARKET DYNAMICS: FIFTH GENERATION NETWORKS AND HUAWEI MARKET LEADERSHIP

The extant research has established that there is a pioneering market share advantage when the product category is successful, and under certain other conditions. This finding has been found across many product categories. Applying this database of empirical knowledge, we address two important policy issues. How does the market share advantage to early entrants impact the Fifth Generation (5G) network technology market structure? How is financial strength of the firm related to market entry of its brand?

India, Pakistan and US: The Delicate Dance, and Why India Must Be Aware That US Will Focus on Its Interests

The United Nations General Assembly brought world policy makers and leaders to New York last week. Imran Khan of Pakistan and Narendra Modi of India were there. Of course, US President Donald Trump was there — he was the central cast. President Trump met with Khan and Modi bilaterally in New York.

Before the UN meetings, Trump met with Modi in Houston where 50,000 Indian Diaspora had gathered to celebrate and listen to Modi.

After all these meetings, the cheese did not move much.

The Endless Roller Coaster of US-China Trade Relations, and Huawei

The United States and China have now been in what appears to be endless trade dispute with no clear path to move forward.  While this has been longer than anyone had initially anticipated, it is not surprising given that the dispute involves important, structural matters. China argues that the United States is adopting a discriminatory posture towards China, and points to banning of Hua Wei equipment and service as evidence of this.  The United States argues that China is protecting its market and not letting American products and services into China.  The US also argues that China is letting violations of Intellectual Property Rights occur without any consequences to that actor(s.)

Whatever be the arguments, it is now time for compromise and resolution.
